Description
The Tekhuri River flows through the Samegrelo region and is located near the popular Martvili Canyons.
The lower part of the Tequri itself represents a relatively gentle river of class 2-2+ difficulty with several local rapids of class 3-4+.
The most interesting part of the river is the final 1.5 kilometers, which pass through the karst canyon of Noklakhevi. Besides landscapes comparable to the Martvili Canyon, it also features the hot springs of Bethlehem, where we make a stop, as well as three very dynamic rapids in the last part of the canyon.
There are two options for rafting on the Tekhuri River:
- From April to July, during high water, rafting covers 20 kilometers starting not far from the village of Salkhino, taking from 2.5 to 4 hours on the water. In this option, besides the canyon, there is another challenging rapid in the middle of the route.
- From July to October, during low water, rafting covers 5 kilometers with passage through the final Nokalakhevi canyon, taking from 50 to 80 minutes. During this time, kayaking is also possible.
