High-mountain Adjara (Journey to the "Georgian Alps")

ABOUT EXCURSION

We offer the journey to the "Georgian Alps" in mountains and hard accessible sites at an altitude of more than 2000 meters above sea level.  In June, the herds from the low villages climb up and stay here for the whole summer, and locals produce the best dairy products in Adjara from natural milk.

During the tour, we will drive along the most beautiful winding road, "Trans Adjarian Highway", that ties Batumi with the region of eastern Georgia, Samtskhe-Javakheti. The last kilometers of that an amazing way, before the Goderdzi pass, function only in the warm season. The local villages a little bit cut off from civilization, and therefore remain many traditions and lifestyles that were here hundreds of years ago.

We’ll see several ancient arched bridges across the main waterway of Adjara, the Adjaristskali River. The cascades of hydroelectric power dam built on this river and forming large lakes. Also, on the way, we will see the aqueduct of the first hydroelectric power station in Adjara, mountain waterfalls, including the famous Makhuntseti waterfall. We’ll drink the natural mineral water of the Goderdzi directly from the mountain spring. We’ll also have the opportunity to buy fresh mountain honey straight from the alpine apiaries.

We will take a ride on a unique construction - "funicular over the abyss," the length of which is 1400 meters. It located above the gorge with a depth of more than 200 meters.

We will also reach the gem of Alpine Adjara - the Green Lake, located far in the mountains. There’s always cold water from springs and from melted snow in it.

Besides, we will acquittance with farming and cattle raising conducted by locals in the high mountains. We will see their temporary homes, and we’ll be able to try unique dishes and products produced only here and not available on the plain.

TOUR PROGRAMM

Start from Batumi at 8 am

We will visit the Makhunceti waterfall, arch bridges Dandalo and Makhunceti, Khulo cable road, Goderdzi pass, Grenn lake, high mountain summer villages.

Back to Batumi about 8-9 pm

The best departing time from Batumi is 11 am

Excursion provides from May till November.

The duration of the route is 12 hours.

Climbing by Transadjarian Highway, we’ll visit the Makhunceti waterfall, and arch bridges Makhunceti, Dandalo, and Purtio. We will stop in Khulo village to ride on the Cableway.

Further Khulo, we will have a ride of dirt road alongside the temporary villages to Green Lake and Goderdzi Pass.
